Abstract Expressionism shifted the conversation away from painting "Object on Canvas." Instead, the canvas became an "Arena to Act." The artist no longer needed an image in mind, but instead only material in hand and a catalogue of techniques to unleash spontaneity. My interest lies in in the object that emerges from the action: "Action as Object."
